Groundbreaking for new SCC Laurel Campus Allied Health and Technical Education Building held
Somerset Community College held a groundbreaking for the new Laurel Campus Allied Health and Technical Education Building on Monday, June 9, 2008
The new Laurel Campus Allied Health and Technical Education Building is expected to open in the Spring Semester of 2010. It is a two story structure containing 53,756 sq. ft. with a total project budget of $14,015,000.
Dr. Michael McCall, the President of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System, and Dr. Jo Marshall, the President and CEO of SCC, we present. A number of city, county and state officials also attended.
The building will be constructed fronting on the US 192 By-Pass adjacent to the Laurel County Public Library.
This new facility will allow Somerset Community College to relocate and expand existing programs in Practical Nursing, Respiratory Therapy and Medical Assisting. In addition it will provide the opportunity for new health programs in Registered Nursing and Pharmacy Technology.
Also included in the facility is a new “one stop” student services component that will allow students to access Admissions, Financial Aid and Counseling Services in one combined area. The building will have several classroom and faculty offices along with a meeting area that will provide space for larger groups.
Along with this project the campus will receive increased parking and access roads. There will also be a small separate campus storage facility constructed as part of this project.
The architectural firm of Arrasmith, Judd, Rapp and Chovan designed the building and construction will be by D.W. Wilburn, Inc.
